Interview for The Tribute Book by Steve Heappey, February 2002.

I Call Your Name, but what is it?
Steve

When is your Birthday?
Tuesday

What band are you in?
The Beatalls

Which Beatle do you play?
Ringo

Which bands have you played with The Night Before?

From being 15years old I've played in bands, the first being a band called 'Cloud 3' (there were 4 of us?) playing in pubs and clubs throughout the country. Mel joined the same band later (my brother) who is George in the Beatalls. Second band 'Luther' again along with Mel. The third being 'Timeout' but gigged very little. Time for a break. Got together again some years later with Mel and a fellow musician (Paul Hopkinson, a great guitarist) to perform backing music for Eddie Kid the motorbike stunt rider, which we recorded at the National Film School at Beacons Field, London for a documentary. Afterwards I decided to pursue a business career for some years. But back to music again. Next band, 'Beatlish' with Mel on the guitar, and then onto 'The Beatalls' after answering an advert in the local paper. 'Zarabanda' (Irish type Cajun music; loved the people but couldn't stand the music). Also filled in for 'The Randees' drummer playing 60's cover music and finally, the most recent, 'Bute' (Funky Music) again along with Mel and also Andy who plays John Lennon in The Beatalls. (Who knows what's round the corner).

When did you first hear The Beatles - as a Little Child?
I cant remember, I must have been a little child, but who could forget.

Tell Me Why you became a Beatle impersonator?

Mel (George) and myself have always loved Beatles music. After visiting the Liverpool Convention we decided to form a tribute of our own, Beatlish.

How did your band Come Together?
I answered an advert in the local paper but was actually looking to find a Paul McCartney for Beatlish. After joining The Beatalls, Mel (George) came along to replace Ian's brother Stuart.

Who is your favourite Beatle?
John.

What is your favourite Northern Song?

I'll Take The High Road, If You Take The Low Road. Sorry! ! ! In My Life

What is your favourite album?
Sgt. Pepper.

What is the best thing about What You're Doing?

Being able to fulfil an ambition along with the great 3 lads I know.

We know that you've been Here There and Everywhere but where has been the best?
The best must be the 1st time we were invited to play at The Beatles Convention in Liverpool and were given a spot on main stage at The Cavern. But it must include the invitation on behalf of Cavern City Tours to perform in Lisbon for the John Lennon Airport. Many thanks to Ray Johnson and Bill Heckle. I can say no more.

What have you done that has made you think - I should've Known Better?

Letting someone else play my 1962 Black Oyster Ludwig Kit at a gig in Stafford (Reynolds Nightclub), they were a support band but the stage did not allow for two drum kits. It was criminal not to hear them play one Beatles song. But the kit sounded great!

Tell me What You See yourself doing in 10 years?

It's a 'long and winding' road until then, but music will still be most prominent (In My Life).

What will you do When You're 64?
Look forward to drawing my pension at 65!

Lastly, who was The Walrus?
I think it was Coo-coo-ca-chew?
